Finding Home: The Journey to Our New Homestead

It’s hard to believe that we’re finally here. After months of searching, dreaming, and navigating the unexpected, we’ve found our dream homestead. Looking back, it feels like this place was always meant for us, even if the journey to get here was anything but smooth.

The process of finding and moving to a new homestead has been full of surprises. There were moments of doubt and plenty of hard work, but every challenge brought us closer to where we are now, a place that truly feels like home.

Discovering the Perfect New Homestead
When we started our search, we didn’t expect to find anything quite like this. The idea of owning a homestead had always been part of our long-term vision, but it felt like a dream that might take years to achieve. Then, out of the blue, we stumbled upon this property. On paper, it wasn’t perfect—but the moment we stepped onto the land, it felt like it was made for us.

Our new homestead has just under four acres, which is the perfect size for the life we’ve been dreaming of. It’s enough space to keep chickens, welcome Nigerian Dwarf goats (arriving this June!), and grow a garden that Bootsy, our mischievous garden-loving pup, and her companion Charley will undoubtedly try to sample. It’s everything we could have hoped for—and more.

The Challenges of Starting Fresh
Of course, moving to a new homestead wasn’t all sunshine and roses. The transition was harder than we expected, especially for Bootsy and Charley. They had grown so comfortable in our previous home, and adjusting to a new environment took time. Bootsy seemed unsettled at first, and Charley, who often looks to her for cues, mirrored her uncertainty.

It took patience to help them adjust. We spent extra time exploring the property with them, giving them a chance to feel safe and at ease in their new surroundings. Slowly but surely, they began to relax, and now they’re thriving in their new home—Bootsy’s already back to her garden raids, and Charley is following suit.

Updates to Our New Homestead
One of the most exciting aspects of this move has been the chance to make the house our own. We’ve already tackled several updates, including painting and replacing the floor, transforming it bit by bit into a space that feels uniquely ours. From refreshing outdated rooms to adding personal touches, every change brings us closer to creating the perfect home.
